Yoenis who did not report to the ballpark for the team’s game against the Atlanta Braves on today (August 2) forcing the Mets to issue a statement saying they have been unable to contact him. “As of game time, Yoenis Céspedes has not reported to the ballpark today,” Mets General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said in the statement. “He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence. Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful.” According to MLB reporter Ken Rosenthal, the Mets did not believe Céspedes is in danger at the time of the report.
“Mets have learned they have no reason to believe Cespedes’ safety is at risk, according to a source with knowledge of the situation,” Ken tweeted.
The Mets did send a security team to check his hotel room and found it had been packed up, and a few hours later, the Mets learned that Céspedes had decided to opt-out of the 2020 season. Mets beat writer Tim Britton said that the Mets were surprised by his decision.
“We will support him in that decision. It was surprising, without question,” Van Wagenen said.
The Mets did not say why he decided to leave without telling the team but Mets manager Luis Rojas told reporters before the game that Céspedes was not in the starting lineup, but did not indicate that he was planning to opt-out of the season.
While Céspedes has struggled early on this season, batting .161 with two home runs, four RBIs. He has struck out 15 times in 31 at-bats. This is the first time he has played in over two seasons following a series of injuries, including a fractured ankle during an encounter with a wild boar. Yes I know a “WILD BOAR!” He’s Cuban afterall, and we all think we’re invincible at times… Funny he fought off a WILD BOAR but it took an invisible enemy sent from China to get him to pack up and get to stepping… In a post-game press conference General Manager Brodie Van Wagenen said that Yoenis Cespedes has opted out of the season because of coronavirus concerns.
I think he just saw the writing on the wall, and he’s got Millions, and doesn’t want to lose his life over a silly baseball game. Seriously it’s time ALL sports just cut the b/s and shut down…. Honestly I’m not watching and don’t care anymore about these overgrown sissy pants baboons who kneel against our flag, anthem, and country.
I hope ALL sports fold, and tank and are gone for good, and all the idiots kneeling lose all their money and end up in shame, and poverty their entire remaining years. Heck if socialism, and the economy breaks their money is worthless anyway! SO ain’t that funny? They’re all in favor of losing it all… Hilarious how stupid these morons are. THEY Want communism, and all love china? Well to hell with all them, and the MLB, NBA, and NFL… I think Yoenis Céspedes, and anyone else who opts out is 100% making the right move for themselves, and family.
